Description

GC 1 Glass Ionomer Cement is formulated with a strontium-based glass component, providing strong radiopacity and a sharp setting profile. The inclusion of strontium contributes to the formation of compounds such as strontium hydroxyapatite and strontium fluoroapatite, supporting internal remineralization within the tooth structure.

In a calcium-rich setting such as saliva, this material demonstrates a surface-strengthening effect as calcium ions are absorbed into the cement, improving its mechanical integrity over time. When properly mixed, GC 1 develops a glossy surface—an indicator that free polyacrylic acid is present to initiate the ion exchange process between the cement and the tooth surface. This interaction creates a chemically bonded seal between enamel, dentin, and the glass ionomer.
